5 Pet Emergency Kit – MUST HAVE Items

Pets are part of the family, let’s not forget how important it is to revise their Emergency Kit items before a natural disaster strikes. Recently we had a small earthquake in California, little but still scary! Which reminded me, I need to check my emergency kit. I have a family “bug out” bag that carries the bare minimal essentials for our family first aid and recently created a small duffel bag for my pets emergency kit.

Keep in mind that you want to make sure these are not your every day use items, these are your extra set that won’t be touched unless there is an emergency. We all have those moments when we desperately need to find something and in the heat of the moment, we aren’t thinking of where we last placed it. Let’s avoid those situations and prepare to our best ability with pet care.

I created a list below that you can screen shot and save on your phone. However, these are my top 5 MUST HAVE items that you need to carry in your family emergency bag, or separate bag for your pets emergency kit.

  1. Vaccine Copies / Paperwork
  2. Medication
  3. Leash with Extra Collar/Tags
  4. Pet Food / Water
  5. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl®), if approved by a veterinarian for allergic reactions. A veterinarian must tell you the correct dosage for your pet’s size

You can find an extensive full list of Pet Emergency Kit items on the Humane Society Organization page. You may need to alter this kit to fit your individual pet needs since this is a general idea.

These are some of the pet products that I absolutely love 🐶

Collapsible Bowls – Amazon.com has these in different sizes and colors. I love that they can easily fold down after a quick rinse, wash or wipe down and hang on your backpack. These are awesome for your pet care kit or to take with you on a hike. The quality is awesome and you’ll love the space you can save when you need to repack them.

Pet Safety Belt – Amazon has a variety of selections, but I love the latch bar attachment style. It’s easy to use with any vehicle. Your pet will still have enough space to be comfortable and they won’t be wiggling around while you drive. You can see Whiskey, my dog – wearing his harness and his Safety Belt which is latched onto the vehicle so he doesn’t jump around my car. We love this! keeps him safe and comfortable throughout the whole ride.

“My Pet is Home Alone” Wallet Card and Key Chain – these are for your every day use. I love that this set has the key chain to alert someone in any emergency, that you have a pet.

ScreenShot and save the photo below to help remind you of what you need for your pet. Once you’ve set up your items, you can place them in your family emergency bag or make one specifically for your pet.
